The Raleigh area had abundant cloud cover this morning, but the sun's rays still found their way through to illuminate the cloud base, seen here about ten minutes before sunrise proper (and better large on black). Ten minutes after sunrise, below (and better LOB), the sun briefly peeked through a thin but well-placed seam in the clouds. Great fun!

Sunrise 090716
This morning's Raleigh area sunrise event was basically ho-hum (no offense, MN)... except for this brief but substantial burst of color (better viewed large on black) that materialized and then quickly faded about ten minutes before sunrise proper. Sweet!

Sunrise 090715
Some interesting clouds graced the Raleigh area sky this morning, and they resulted in a delightful full-sky sunrise event, seen here a few minutes before sunrise proper (and better large on black). Great way to celebrate the new day... and 37 years of WB!

Sunrise 090714
The Raleigh area had just a few clouds low offering just a little color on the horizon at twilight's onset (better large on black). Same few clouds, but the view was entirely different at sunrise proper, below (also better LOB). Both sweet!

Sunrise 070523
With a cold front moving through, the Raleigh area had cloudy skies this morning, so here's a stand-in shot from the archive... dating to July 23, 2007... some nice color under dappled skies just before sunrise proper (and better viewed large on black). A little muddy, but better than a stick in the eye!

Sunrise 090712
As is often the case, the real color in today's Raleigh area sunrise, seen here at its peak, some ten minutes before sunrise proper (and better large on black), was a short-lived event... ah, yes, short but oh so sweet!

Sunrise 090711
A quick trip to the North Carolina coast provided this shot of the sunrise over Bogue Sound (better large on black)... with Morehead City on the horizon and the at Large headed for the Gulf Stream. Good luck, boys!
